Americo Tognetti, the original Acai man, dressed in a navy T shirt with Acai written on the font and a poster showing his Acai products in the background.

Acai (pronounced ah-sigh-ee), is a dark purple berry that grows abundantly in the Amazon jungle where it’s widely consumed by native people for centuries. Today it’s also a popular snack on Brazilian beaches.

Acai’s popularity today lies in an abundance of health properties, including …

  • It’s reported to have more anti-oxidant power than other berries, 5 times that of blueberries, for example.
  • When compared with red wine, it’s said to contain 30 times more anthocyanins, the health-promoting flavonoids in purple and red foods, including grapes.
  • There’s scientific evidence that it contains omega 9 fatty acids that may help to reduce bad LDL cholesterol and omega 6 fatty acids responsible for maintaining the optimal health of many of our bodily functions.
  • It contains a high proportion of fibre.

Americo Tognetti was the first to bring Acai to Australia and show us how to enjoy the popular beach snack he loved so much while growing up in Brazil. Introducing it to 2,500 or more outlets, has earned him he reputation of ‘the acai guy’.

Amazon Power’s acai is available powdered or frozen (as 100% pulp) and in many sizes from bulk down to single-serve snacks and convenient, ready-to-serve portions with other ingredients included.

As a cafe owner, all you have to do is add fresh seasonal fruit and yoghurt – and a little creative flair.  If you’re stuck for ideas, you’ll find recipes on the Amazon Power website, Facebook and Instagram. Acai is suitable for taking away and dine in service. Americo is also keen to advertise his products as certified organic. Being caffeine-free, they’re suitable for children, and being free of soy lecithin,  they’re safe for those with allergies to soy.
