A man and a lady lying in a bed of roses, holding a bottle of pink cordial with LOVE on the label

Alchemy started after Michael and Gayle Bishop made a chilli-flavoured syrup for a cocktail party – just for fun. Out of that grew a range of dozens different cordials and syrups.  With a humble start at a local market in Cleveland, Alchemy Cordials is now an iconic Australian brand that’s selling internationally. In 2018, they proudly celebrated 21 years in business.

The latest additions to the Alchemy range are the super-food latte elixirs. Being liquids, they’re easier for baristas to use than the powdered mixes you’ll find elsewhere.  All a barista has to do is add milk to a small quantity of the elixir – the same as they would by pouring milk onto espresso to make a latte.

The Golden Turmeric Elixir was the first. Turmeric is what gives some curries a bright yellow colour; and it’s bioactive ingredient, curcumin, has always been used as a medicine in India.  It’s ‘anti almost everything’ – anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, anti-cancer, anti-ageing and much more. Alchemy uses a little pepper in its mix, as without it curcumin would not give its maximum health benefits.

By contrast, the Kyoto Matcha Elixir is a vibrant green. Matcha is a style of tea that’s mostly grown and processed in Japan. It has a higher level of chlorophyll than other teas and because the leaves are stone-ground into a fine powder, the whole leaf is consumed. Monks and samurai warriors are said to have drunk matcha as part of their meditation rituals. Matcha also has an impressive list of health-promoting properties, ranging from its positive effect on skin and brain functions to its enhancement of physical performance and weight loss.

A third, named Beyond Beetroot is another of Alchemy’s health-promoting elixirs – based on beetroot’s association with improved blood flow, lower blood pressure and enhancement exercise performance. Beyond Beetroot is delicious coupled with other flavours such as cacao, ginger, cinnamon and musk seed oil.
