Nestled in the pretty Byron Bay hinterland, Brookfarm is a dream come true for the Brook family – Pam, Martin and their two sons.  They’ve planted 4,000 macadamia nut trees – along with 35,000 rainforest trees to house the insects and wildlife that maintain the natural balance of their farm ecosystem.

The native bees,  birds and native animals including platypus, koalas, turtles and water dragons, all have a job to do! For example, two breeding owls take care of the rats and mice, estimated to be over 1,000 a year. Tiny trichogramma wasps keep nut-destroying borer beetles at bay and native carbonaria bees pollinate the macadamia and rainforest trees.

Pam and Martin have also built a state-of-the-art bakery that produces a range of delicious products based on macadamia nuts and oils. It’s powered by the sun with 288 solar panels. They’re clearly ‘walking the talk’ when it comes to environmental sustainability and encourage cafe owners, chefs and customers wanting to do the same by choosing their products.

All designed for convenience as well, the products include muesli, granola, ‘porrij’ and bircher to serve in bowls and snack packs and nut bars to pop on the counter. One product that’s particularly popular is Brookfarm’s gluten-free granola.

Those who choose this granola have access to cutting-edge inspiration via the beautiful recipe ideas from Brookfarm – including those from Pam and Martin’s favourite chefs from around the world. A wander through the mouth-watering images on the Brookfarm website is almost as enjoyable as wandering the farm.
